GAUA-UCC Launches 2026 Professional Week

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has officially launched its 2026 Professional Week with a call on university administrators to embrace strategic leadership, innovation and professionalism to advance the University. 

The ceremony brought together senior university officials, administrators, representatives of sister unions and members of the University community to commence a week-long programme aimed at promoting professional development, collaboration and administrative excellence.

The Registrar of the University, Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq., who was represented by the Registrar of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Mr Ebenezer Aggrey, described the Professional Week as an opportunity to recognise the invaluable contributions of university administrators to the effective governance and development of the University. 

He noted that the celebration sought to strengthen professional bonds, promote continuous learning and reaffirm administrators’ commitment to excellence, integrity and dedicated service. He added that the week’s activities were designed to enhance professional knowledge, foster unity and well-being, and equip administrators to respond effectively to the evolving demands of higher education. 

While urging members to participate in all scheduled activities actively, he stressed that their collective efforts were essential to the University’s success. 

“Let this week remind us that our individual efforts, when united by a shared sense of purpose, contribute significantly to institutional success,” Mr. Abbeyquaye stated.

Delivering the keynote address on the theme, “Moving Beyond Routine Administration Towards Strategic Leadership, Institutional Transformation and Sustainable Excellence,” the Registrar of Takoradi Technical University, Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory, challenged university administrators to reposition themselves as strategic leaders capable of driving institutional transformation. 

He observed that the changing higher education landscape required administrators who can anticipate emerging challenges, develop innovative solutions, and lead institutional change with confidence. According to him, administrators must move beyond routine administrative functions and become proactive leaders who contribute meaningfully to institutional governance and transformation. 

Dr. Abnory underscored the importance of servant leadership, noting that leadership was defined not by title or position but by service, action, and the ability to inspire positive change. He encouraged administrators to plan strategically, remain results-oriented, and proactively prepare their institutions for future opportunities and challenges. 

He further urged participants to uphold integrity, ethical conduct, and accountability in discharging their responsibilities while embracing research-informed administration and data-driven decision-making to enhance institutional effectiveness. 

He also highlighted the need for cross-functional collaboration, strong interpersonal relationships and unity among administrators, encouraging members to resolve internal differences amicably and work collectively towards shared institutional goals. 

The keynote speaker called on members of GAUA to contribute meaningfully to the realisation of the University’s mission and vision by embracing innovation, continuous professional development and strategic leadership. He urged administrators to remain committed to sustaining the University of Cape Coast’s reputation as the leading university in West Africa while strengthening its position as a globally competitive institution. 

The 2026 GAUA Professional Week celebration would feature professional development sessions and activities to equip administrators with the knowledge, skills, and leadership competencies required to support institutional excellence and sustainable development.
